The Format, how you will be missed. The Format was an interesting band, despite the name of the band, which was meant to mock the pop label format for an album, their music was definitely pop inspired. I suppose that was only their music though, as their signing to Elektra records did basically nothing for them at all.
The Format is a great example of a self made DIY band that did great things. Extensive touring over 100,000 albums sold, and huge fan base accumulated basically on their own. The band came to an awkward and abrupt end in 2008. After a solid catalouge, with EPs, a couple fulllengths and live albums we will be hearing no new material from the band.
The good news it that singer Nate Ruess, one of the founding members, has started a new band called fun, which shares many of the same aspects of The Format's music. They released their debut album yesterday August 24th, thus making the Format the perfect candidate for this weeks throwback. Go listen to some Format albums then buy fun. You can check out a review of fun's debut album Aim and Ignite here.
